Authors: Raoul Dufy and Karen Greene
Average review score:

A Delightful Rendition
When I happened across a copy of this book recently, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful illustrations which, for me, blended spiritually with the time-honored tradition of the original twelve steps. This is also true of the additional quotes from famous people that are included in this very simple, yet precious volume.

Under the Garden
Published in Audio Cassette by Pub Group West Audio (October, 1991)
Author: Graham Greene
Average review score:

This is without a doubt the finest novella ever written.
What can you say about a story that resonates with meaning, dips into a deep mythological well, reads like ancient scriptures AND is hysterically funny? Find it, read it, and re-read it. I have the print version in a short story anthology called STRANGENESS, edited by Thomas Disch and Charles Naylor. The audio version featuring Derek Jacobi succeeded beyond my expectations in bringing to life the unbelievably rich texture of this stunning story. Book discussion groups take note: this is a great one for discussion and dissection!

native grassland conservation & research in SE AZ
THE VIEW FROM BALD HILL: THIRTY YEARS IN AN ARIZONA GRASSLAND, Carl E. Bock, and Jane H. Bock (University of California Press, Berkeley CA 94720, 196pp.): For about twenty-five years, Drs. Carl and Jane Bock (both of them professors at the University of Colorado) have spent their summers in research at the National Audubon Society's 7,800 acre Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch 60 miles southeast of Tucson. Originally part of the Babocomari Grant, the Research Ranch and the land surrounding it had been heavily grazed by cattle for many years until 1968, when the Appleton family, who owned it at the time, removed the cattle altogether and dedicated the Ranch as an environmental preserve and as a lab for ecological research. The Bocks arrived soon afterward. This very readable book relates what they have learned over the years about an arid grassy region left entirely alone to be its natural self. Their book tells an exciting story about an increasingly rare kind of landscape.

A Very Good Poet...
A good poet uses the facts of the physical world and the realities of everyday life to give readers a chance to know what it's like to see the world from behind another's eyeballs, from inside someone else's skin. To be a good poet is to be a very important person, someone who makes a difference in the lives of those lucky enough to share in her gift. Jennifer Greene is a very good poet who participates fully in her own life and willlingly and expertly shares it with her readers.

What the Dead Remember
Published in Paperback by Plume (December, 1992)
Author: Harlan Greene
Average review score:

"Catcher in the Rye" for the gay male
Harlan Greene dredged up memories I had long ago allowed to gather dust and cobwebs. As a fellow southerner, I found myself remembering the same lonely feelings of disassociation as I grew into purberty. I remembered my longing for being one of the gang. However, I have to confess, that Greene's book took several turns I never thought it would. The ending is so mind boggling that I wouldn't have dared to guess the story's outcome. This is no Stephen King or Jeffrey Archer novel, with simple writing done for the brain dead. The prose in this book is very reminescent of Catcher in the Rye. You really have to love to read and to love discovering a book to fully appreciate Greene's work. While I'm bored to tears with the typical gay AIDS era novel - this one is different - leaps and bounds beyond any other I've ever read. If you can secure a copy, you'll have a real treasure.

When a Line Bend...a Shape Begins
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Authors: Rhonda Gowler Greene and James Kaczman
Average review score:

Review from ultra
In an industy where hundreds of childrens books are introduced almost every month, this one impressively stands out among all the other casualties for content and especially illustration. This is a rare case where illustration style and story does not try to partonize parents and their children nor does it come across as an over-intellectualized wanna-be childrens book. I can't wait to have children so I can read and reread this book to them.
